CTSD™
The CTSD™ (Cervical Tissue Sample Device) is a set of instruments (fluid, brush, shroud), contained within a syringe, that are used for collecting cervical samples from women in the privacy of their homes. Exocervical and endocervical cells are collected at the same time, thereby eliminating the need for multiple instruments. This small device is easy to use, gathers cells from the cervix and surrounding tissue for testing, and can be done by the patient without a doctor’s assistance.
The CTSD™ provides the patient with a procedure that is private, simple, quicker and more comfortable than current pap smear procedures. The patient requests an at-home pap smear kit from a physician, a women’s health clinic, or other health facility, for cancer screenings and other health concerns.

PRODUCT DETAILS
The CTSD™ is a device that is used to collect cervical cells in a procedure that is performed at home by the patient. The do-it-yourself pap smear kit is comprised of a single syringe with a plunger, and contains a collection brush inside the syringe that is covered by a shroud. A sealed end cap contains fluid, which is released by the plunger after insertion.
As the plunger continues further, the shroud opens up, the brush makes contact with the cervix, and cells are collected from the cervix and surrounding areas. The plunger retracts, pulling the shroud and brush back inside the syringe, and the collected sample is mailed to a lab for testing.
By using the CTSD™, a patient performs a private, at-home procedure that eliminates the need for a doctor office visit, is quick and easy to perform, and saves time and money. The CTSD™ also reduces the stress and embarrassment for the patient, and makes a pap smear less intimidating, especially for young patients.
This type of testing would create a new way to reach women in all socio-economic situations. Women who fear doctors, who cannot afford medical procedures, who do not allow procedures because of religious beliefs, and women who neglect their health can have regular screenings with less hassle, less embarrasment, and less costs. Regular pap smears can detect infections, abnormalities, and cancer cells, providing an earlier detection and treatment plan for women not only in the U.S., but all over the world.
