Quick Warning/Traffic Sensing Alarm™

The Quick Warning/Traffic Sensing Alarm is a product that would fulfill the need for enhanced safety for workers alongside busy highways. Ease of use, convenience, and safety are all appealing features of the Quick Warning system. Instead of feeling vulnerable while working next to high-speed traffic, this product would provide advanced warning to the operator that drivers have not switched lanes.

The tow truck driver, construction worker, or police officer would be notified with enough time to move out of the way and avoid being injured or killed along the roadside. It would provide peace of mind for those who are regularly put in vulnerable and dangerous positions alongside busy highways.

This adjustable and waterproof product would provide instant warning of possible danger to keep workers alert and informed. It could reduce stress and anxiety for those who fear being in inadvertently rammed by a driver that is daydreaming, drunk, drowsy, or distracted. This product is also reliable, user-friendly, cost effective, and portable.

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Quick Warning/Traffic Sensing Alarm would be comprised primarily of a transmitter, sensor, receiver, and an alarm. The radar unit, located and counted on the vehicle, would be in wireless communication with the personal receiver, worn similarly to a beeper or watch that would act as a personal alarm when a moving vehicle comes into range.

This product has various configurations. One version would consist of a battery-operated weatherproof radar unit that would secure to a signpost or a portable stand-alone tripod along the shoulder of the highway, about 150 to 200 feet in advance of the work area. The operator could set the sensor distance for an automatic alert, which may be about 10 to 12 feet to detect vehicles in the nearest lane only.

The weatherproof radar unit would measure approximately 3 inches tall, 10 inches long, and 3 inches wide. It would look and work much like a police radar/laser gun with a rubber-coated metal clamp instead of a handle.

Version two would consist of a similar unit, but that could be mounted directly to the side or rear of an emergency vehicle as a permanent mount in situations where time or conditions do not allow for a separately mounted unit, such as with emergency medical vehicles and first responders. In this configuration, the detection range of the sensor can be preset so it’s extended out a few hundred feet from the vehicle itself. The operator will only need to point the unit in the direction of oncoming traffic and turn it on.
